Adventures in Eastern Europe
Untamed landscapes. Rich history. Unforgettable experiences. There’s something about Eastern Europe that keeps pulling me back. Maybe it’s the way the mist rolls over Transylvania’s hills at sunrise or the thrill of stumbling upon a tiny, family-run taverna in a Croatian fishing village. Whatever it is, this part of the world feels like a never-ending adventure, waiting to be explored.

Unmissable Eastern European Adventures
Step into the Legend: Transylvania, Romania
The first time I visited Transylvania, I expected Dracula-themed kitsch at every corner. Instead, I found quiet villages with cobbled streets, locals selling homemade cheese, and medieval churches that felt frozen in time. Bran Castle is worth a visit, of course—but the real magic is in places like Viscri, where you can still see shepherds leading their flocks at dusk.
The Last Frontier: Albania
Albania surprised me. One day, I was paddling through the turquoise waters of Ksamil; the next, I was hiking in the Accursed Mountains, completely alone except for the occasional goat. If you love off-the-beaten-path adventures, this is your place. And for history lovers, Butrint’s ancient ruins are eerily quiet—no crowds, just you and centuries of untold stories.
The Trans-Siberian Railway: The Ultimate Overland Journey
I’ll never forget the moment I woke up on the Trans-Siberian Railway and looked out at an endless, snow-covered landscape. It felt like I was in a novel. This legendary train journey is about more than just getting from Moscow to Vladivostok—it’s about the people you meet, the tiny villages you glimpse from your window, and the sheer scale of it all.
Hiking & Biking in the Tatras: Poland & Slovakia
Zakopane in summer is nothing like the ski town I first visited in winter. The snow melts away, revealing wildflower-filled meadows and some of the best hiking trails in Europe. If you’re into cycling, the trails here are unreal—one minute, you’re pedalling past mountain lakes, and the next, you’re deep in an alpine forest.
Croatian Island Adventures
One of my favourite memories of Croatia? Anchoring in a hidden cove, diving into the clear blue water, and realizing there wasn’t another soul around. Sailing through the Adriatic feels like a dream—secluded beaches, fresh seafood, and sleepy villages where time moves slower.
Slovenia’s Alpine Wonderland
Lake Bled looks like something out of a fairy tale, but the real magic starts when you venture beyond. The Soča River, with its almost unreal shade of emerald, is perfect for rafting, and Triglav National Park offers some of the most breathtaking hikes I’ve ever done.
Hungary’s Hidden Gems
Hungary isn’t just about Budapest (though I could spend days wandering its ruin bars and soaking in the thermal baths). Rent a bike and head out to the vineyards around Lake Balaton—nothing beats ending a ride with a glass of local wine at a lakeside terrace.

Unforgettable Cultural & Historical Experiences
- Bulgaria – The frescoes inside Rila Monastery are something else. I wasn’t prepared for how vivid and intricate they’d be.
- Bosnia & Herzegovina – Watching the bridge jumpers in Mostar made my heart race. I still don’t know how they do it.
- Montenegro – The hike up to Kotor Fortress is brutal, but the view? Completely worth it.
