Small Group Tours in Thailand
Looking for that sweet spot between independent travel and a package holiday?
Small group tours in Thailand can work brilliantly. You still get the colour, atmosphere and sense of adventure that make the country so addictive, but without having to organise every route, transfer and overnight stop yourself.
Travelling as part of a small group has real advantages here. There are expert tour leaders to take the hassle out of the practical side, help you get more from the places you are seeing, and make the whole journey feel easier and more rewarding. Groups are usually small, often around 8 to 16 people, which keeps the experience more relaxed and less disruptive than a large coach tour. It also works very well for solo travellers.
Travel through Thailand, the Land of Smiles, and you see a country of contrasts. There is the intensity of Bangkok, the slower rhythm of rural villages and hill country, and the southern islands where jungle-covered limestone drops into aquamarine water and the sand really is that bright. It is the sort of place many people visit once, then think about for years afterwards.
Thailand can look idyllic on the surface, and often it is, but the part people tend to remember most is the atmosphere. Night markets thick with heat and smoke, temple roofs catching the light, longtail boats pulling into quiet bays, fresh curries that make your local Thai feel like a pale imitation, and jungle landscapes that still feel genuinely alive. Done well, it goes far beyond the obvious tourist trail.
- Paddle through the verdant rainforest of Khao Sok National Park
- Listen out for gibbons swinging through the canopy
- Spend the night in a remote jungle setting
- Visit Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai
- Take a walking night safari in one of the oldest jungles in the world
- Soak up the almost overwhelming atmosphere in one of Bangkok's famous night markets
Whatever it is that draws you to Thailand, I can help you find the right way to experience it.

There is much more to Thailand than the obvious
From the bustle of Bangkok and its tuk-tuks and markets to the tropical calm of Krabi and the ancient temples of the old Sukhothai Kingdom, there is far more range here than many people expect. Thailand can be soft and restorative, loud and exhilarating, or active and properly adventurous depending on how you build the trip.
Get away from the busiest trail and explore the lush mangroves of Khao Sam Roi Yot. Then switch pace completely and relax on palm-fringed shores beneath jagged limestone cliffs, with that deep turquoise water doing exactly what people hope it will.
If the more adventurous side of Thailand is what appeals, this could also include:
- Rafting through rich tropical forests and bamboo camp country
- Scuba diving in warm, clear waters
- Rock climbing around Railay and Ton Sai
- Ziplining through the jungle canopy
- Waterfall abseiling, jungle trekking and caving
Thailand is easy to love, but not every trip suits every traveller. Some people want temples and food. Others want islands, jungle, wildlife, active adventure, or a route that balances the headline sights with places that feel less obvious. That is why choosing the right trip matters.
If Thailand appeals but a small group trip does not feel quite right for you, I can also help with self-guided travel in Thailand. And if this is a big trip for the two of you, with more focus on pace, atmosphere and time together, take a look at honeymoons in Thailand.
With 30 years of adventure travel experience, I can help you work out which route, pace and operator genuinely suit you. I stay independent, so I can focus on the right fit for your interests, budget and the way you like to travel, rather than pushing one fixed itinerary. You can also read more about why clients book with me.
I also care about how a trip is run, not just where it goes. I prefer operators who respect local communities, take wildlife seriously and create journeys that feel well paced rather than rushed. You can read more about that on my Responsible Travel page.
