SMALL GROUP ADVENTURES IN COSTA RICA
Looking for that sweet spot between independent backpacking and a package holiday?
Travelling as part of a Small Group tour has its perks. There are local expert tour leaders to take the hassle out of travel arrangements and show you the sights, plus a group of like-minded travellers to share the fun with. All you have to do is turn up with a smile and a passport
Groups are small, normally 8-16 people, meaning the trips aren’t disruptive to the places we visit, and a smaller number creates a good group dynamic; you’ll get to know a range of people from different backgrounds with a shared interest in travel.
Got the urge for adventure, but no-one to do it with? Over half of the travellers on Small Group trips are travelling solo.
In spite of its small size, Costa Rica is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world with volcanoes, wildlife, and rainforests. The beaches are an added bonus: some surf hubs; others a mellow, desert-island feel.
Your Costa Rica adventure might include activities like whitewater rafting, a rainforest canopy tour, relaxing at the beach, or wildlife spotting in the rainforest from an ecolodge. Vacation hotspots include Manuel Antonio National Park, Tortuguero, Monteverde cloud forest and Arenal Volcano
COSTA RICA HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Costa Rica has a long, proud history of ecotourism and adventure travel, with one of the most developed conservation programs in the Americas and friendly Costa Ricans, "Ticos", who enthusiastically invite travellers to experience Pura Vida - "Pure Life."
It’s ideal for thrill-seekers. Fly down zip-wires over the jungle and walk on volcanoes in the same day. And for wildlife-lovers, stay in the rainforest and search for sloths. Listen to a chorus of crickets, frogs and more - from silence to a cacophony as the sunsets.
Howler monkeys bark from the treetops, and you'll see Amazon kingfishers, blue herons and toucans, as well as the endangered green macaw, flying through the air, while otters and caiman hunt along the riverbanks.
The protected shoreline welcomes green, giant leatherback, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles, which lumber up the beach where they were born to lay their eggs. Costa Rica’s best-known cloud forest, Monteverde, straddles the Central Mountain Range. It’s the last primary cloud forest in Central America and you can explore the area on foot, by horseback or by zip-line.
Compared with the Brazilian or Peruvian Amazon, reached through a series of internal flights and boat transfers, Costa Rica’s primary rainforests are extremely accessible: it’s the chance to experience an exotic ecosystem without the hassle of complicated logistics.
