Just some of the destination choices for great bird-watching:

  • Ecuador and The Galapagos Islands - Home to 1620 species in total, 27 of which are endemic to The Galapagos Islands and seven to the mainland, Ecuador has two times more bird species than the entirety of North America. See sword-billed hummingbird, blue-footed boobies, Galapagos Mockingbird, Galapagos hawk, and the Famous Darwinian finches
  • Patagonia - Patagonia is an area encompassing both Argentina and Chile, combining ecosystems of sub-Antarctic forests, high-elevation mountains and barren grasslands of the steppe.  A unique range of terrestrial and seabirds are found in this region, along with a huge number of penguin colonies along the Pacific and Atlantic coasts: Magellanic, Humboldt and king penguins, Chilean flamingoes, Andean condor, Austral parakeets, Magellanic woodpeckers, upland goose
  • Peru - With an estimated 19% of all bird species in the world found in Peru, it’s not surprising that this land of dense, Amazonian rainforest and cool Pacific coastline is a top destination for birdwatching in South America.  The magnificent frigatebird, Humboldt penguin, osprey, waved albatross, green and white hummingbird, torrent duck, lemon-throated barbet, silver beaked tanager are just a few highlights
  • Brazil – From the bright plumage of jungle species such as toucans, parrots and hummingbirds to those that have adapted to the open plains of the tropical savannah, Brazil is alive with a fascinating array of birdlife. See Burrowing owl, Amazon kingfisher, hyacinth macaw, swallow-tailed hummingbird, toco toucan, red-and-green macaw, flightless rhea, crested caracara, harpy eagle
  • Belize -  is only the size of Wales yet it has over 500 different species of bird, making it a haven for birders. With 15 national parks and long stretches of stunning Caribbean coastline to discover, the lush, untouched rainforests here are home to over 300 bird species, including the blue-crowned motmot and the brightly-coloured emerald toucanet.
  • Costa Rica – With over 850 species the compact size of Costa Rica is one of its real advantages – in a relatively short time you can travel from the dense tropical forests of the Corcovado National Park, spotting chestnut-mandibled toucans and scarlet macaws, to the highland cloud forests to see trogons and hummingbirds, colourful woodpeckers, flycatchers and the beautiful resplendent quetzal.
  • Panama - has the largest number of bird species in Central America within its borders, including parrots, toucans, macaws, quetzals and Panama’s national bird, the harpy eagle.  Soberania National Park boasts a wealth of different species such as golden-dollared manakins, black-throated trogons and several varieties of woodpecker and toucan.
