SMALL GROUP ADVENTURES IN THE ARCTIC
Looking for that sweet spot between independent backpacking and a package holiday?
Travelling as part of a Small Group tour has its perks. There are local expert tour leaders to take the hassle out of travel arrangements and show you the sights, plus a group of like-minded travellers to share the fun with. All you have to do is turn up with a smile and a passport
Groups are small, normally 8-16 people, meaning the trips aren’t disruptive to the places we visit, and a smaller number creates a good group dynamic; you’ll get to know a range of people from different backgrounds with a shared interest in travel.
Got the urge for adventure, but no-one to do it with? Over half of the travellers on Small Group trips are travelling solo.

THE ARCTIC IS COMPLETELY UNIQUE
Polar voyages in the Arctic are a summer affair, as key destinations are only accessible between June and September when enough sea ice has melted to allow exploration by ship.
High summer is prime time for seeing wildlife. Seabirds nest in their millions on sea cliffs in the Svalbard archipelago, while geese, swans and Arctic terns raise their young on the open tundra. Camouflaged in their brown summer coats, egg-raiding Arctic foxes are on the prowl, while polar bears can be seen foraging, and stalking seals. Walruses are frequently encountered and there’s also a good chance of spotting humpback, minke, fin and blue whales, plus narwhal, orca and beluga.
During shore excursions, via kayak from the ship, you’ll be able to tiptoe through the tundra, observing the profusion of delicate Arctic flowers that need to bloom and set seed during the brief Arctic summer.
